So today we’d like to share a little about Kelly, Paralegal at Biztech Lawyers. Kelly brings exceptional organizational skills having worked in direct marketing companies managing company trademarks, international entity formations, mergers, and in the franchise industry specifically franchise agreements and sales growth opportunities. 

We asked Kelly a few questions….

Question: Tell us, why a career in law?

Answer: For me, the field of law is expansive covering many subjects and topics creating opportunities to assist in solving various issues that arise in daily business. I enjoy viewing and analyzing each issue to figure out the best solution.  

Question: What were you doing prior to Biztech?

Answer: Before joining Biztech I worked at a direct marketing company called ARIIX headquarters in the US with branch offices in Europe and Asia that focused on selling wellness products such as  vitamins, protein powders, and skincare. 

Question: What did you study? 

Answer: I received my bachelors in Anthropology at George Mason University. I later received a Certificate in Paralegal Studies also from George Mason. 

Question: What key learning have you brought with you from in-house support to legal counsel to being part of the team at Biztech Lawyers?

Answer:  I bring great organizational skills and knowledge of formation of company entities and trademarks. 

Question: Tell us more about your time working across acquisitions and mergers that might be of interest to our clients thinking of taking this next step. 

Question: Answer: Any big change within a company can be exciting and at the same time overwhelming. When looking  at all the details that go into the acquisition and/or merger having the right legal team in place then all those details become more manageable and set the company up on the right path to a successful outcome. 

Question: With Biztech Lawyers’ focus on startups and tech companies your work with managing trademark portfolios will be of interest. Any advice on best practice we should all be aiming for? 

Answer: Trademarks are necessary for a company to further their growth and protect their brand. Start small and form a strategy that is in line with your marketing strategy. Registering trademarks all over the world too quickly can lead to having trademarks in a country the company will never have a presence in resulting in extra costs/expenses.

Question: Lastly, any pieces of advice that you have taken on board? 

Answer:  Law can seem complex but it is more about figuring out the best solution to the issue. Working with experienced lawyers with various legal backgrounds across international borders makes figuring out those solutions easier.

Over seven years of experience primarily in the direct marketing and franchise industries providing her expertise in drafting and negotiating, managing trademark portfolios, litigation support and entity formation.
