As a young lobbyist and public policy advocate for education issues I drafted a piece of legislation on distance learning in the early days of the Internet, but it was turned away by a Congressional staffer because “I was not a lawyer.” So I fixed that by going to law school even after I had a career as a political professional. (And a version of the legislation became law anyway).
