Our team members speak your language, understand your challenges, and look to build long term relationships.

We asked Julie a few questions…

Question: Tell us, why a career in law?

Answer:  I am a problem solver by nature and I enjoy moving from the realm of problem/issue to solution quickly in order to help a client. I am curious and inquisitive and enjoy learning and growing my skill set in order to help clients do more, work smarter rather than harder and manifest their business vision.

Question: What is the startup scene like in Charlottesville?

Answer: Charlottesville’s startup and tech scene is booming! Charlottesville is home to the University of Virginia, one of the best universities in the country, and is just generally a city full of great minds. It is such a uniquely beautiful place to live that it draws people from large cities and smaller towns alike, which creates a mix of ideas and inspiration that drives business, innovation and collaboration.

Question: What is it like working cross-border with the Australian team?

Answer: I think it’s wonderful! We live in such a global time that it only feels like the natural next step to merge and grow cross-border. We can only learn from each other and grow our own ideas about how best to serve clients.

Question: What have you brought with you from your time practicing in litigation?

Answer: Litigation taught me the essentials of drafting, negotiation, moving towards a resolution but holding firm when it’s needed to best serve my client.

Question: Setting parameters around dealing with sensitive information is of great importance to tech and startup businesses. What is one piece of advice you’d like to share when considering drafting an NDA?

Answer: Protect yourself and your information! As a startup, your information is your everything, and it deserves protecting so that you can grow and stand out in your industry. NDAs are key to this. Be thorough, forward looking and comprehensive in contemplating the terms of your NDAs.

Question: What skills as a lawyer would you apply to another profession?

Answer: My initial plan before pursuing law was to become a doctor. I feel that I bring that scientific examination to my practice: triage, make a plan, prevent, as applicable.
